Our philosophy
Children teach themselves”. Montessori is an education methodology that understands that children have sensitive periods for absorbing information. At Sunflower Montessori your child can take in knowledge effortlessly. What’s more your child will love what they do and take great pride in their work.
At Sunflower Montessori, each room is a carefully prepared environment following the Montessori philosophy and offers a calm, ordered, and safe space where your child works on activities of their own choosing at their own pace. We strive to create a social setting that encourages the child to develop their social skills.
At Sunflower we also see the importance of carefully selected toys which used in an appropriate way can be another tool to your child’s learning experience as well as being an enjoyable addition to the day’s activities. We have dolls, home corner, train sets, Lego and construction toys. We play group games to encourage social skills and turn taking.
The children have great fun baking and cooking. We introduce the children to early science and maths. We work to develop your child’s social skills, vocabulary and love of food. Our young children enjoy Heuristic play and treasure-baskets.

Montessori Material
Each classroom at Sunflower contains Montessori materials that together make up the prepared Montessori environment.
Your child is free to move within the Montessori environment and to choose which activity to undertake. This is a key aspect of the Montessori philosophy.
The teacher remains there to help if she is needed and to quietly demonstrate at other times but the child interacts with the material independently. Montessori places huge trust in your child’s innate ability to “teach himself”.
Each piece of Montessori material is carefully designed to develop particular cognitive skills in your child’s developing mind. It is clear to your child what she must do and the material is designed to allow her to see herself when she has succeeded.
It is truly a wonder and a joy to see the total immersion and concentration in a child’s face as they work in this way. The material is designed not only to develop your child’s cognitive skills but also to promote her confidence and self-esteem.
Our Languages
Sunflower Brussels is a bi-lingual (Eng & FR) nursery and pre-school. We respect and celebrate the nationalities and culture of all the children who attend. For us language is not only a means of communication but is to be celebrated the children listen to and tell stories, recite poems and of course sing songs.
